The Best Types of Vapes for Hiking the Trails

If you are an avid hiker, then you probably tend to stick to the healthier alternatives. This could be choosing to take the stairs over the elevator or choosing fruit over cake for dessert. Another common alternative is to choose to vape over smoke dry herb.  A powerful and convenient alternative to old-school smoking is vaporizers are, which are generally considered better for your lungs than inhaling clouds of smoke. So, if you are hiking some serious trails but want to enjoy a bowl at the top of a mountain, then you will probably opt for a portable vaporizer over a pre-roll. If that’s the case, then we have some suggestions of vaporizers you should add to your backpack. These vapes are portable, easy to use, and a discreet option for toking on trails.

Types of Portable Vaporizers

There are many different kinds of portable vaporizers online these days. They are designed to vape a variety of materials, but we will stick to discussing the ones that handle dry herb or wax the best. You’ll want to consider your options and vaping preferences carefully in order to find the best fit for you and the great outdoors. Thankfully, we’ve already some of the potential benefits and drawbacks of different types of vapes to use while hiking.

Vape Pens

The simplest form of a portable vaporizer is the common vape pen. These types of vape devices are small, convenient, and easy to use. They also normally resemble the size and shape of a pen, which is where they got their name from. The SteamCloud Evod vape pen battery is a great example of this type of device.

These types of basic vaporizer batteries feature universal 510 threading so that any common oil cartridge can be attached. A vape pen normally just has a power button and that’s it. But the SteamCloud Evod pen also gives you the ability to control the voltage of the battery to fit the viscosity of your oil cartridge. All you have to do to have a session is click the pen on, vape, click off, and continue hiking. Its appeal is in its simplicity, so that you can focus on the views instead.

Dry Herb Vaporizers

If you prefer to vape dry herb in nature, then there are also some great options for portable vaporizers to use while hiking. It will take a bit more time to prepare for a session with a dry herb vaporizer, but that’s mainly due to the fact that you have to first grind up your dry herb with an herb grinder. If you plan ahead though, as any good hiker should, then you can grind your herb in advance and preload the vaporizer, so you don’t have to do it on the trail.

These devices will either use combustion or conduction heating methods, but conduction vaporizers are normally preferred by those who like to inhale pure vapor over smoke. A great option for a conduction dry herb vaporizer is the Titan 2 dry herb vaporizer.

This vaporizer fits easily in one hand and is very travel friendly. You can load it up with either dry herb or wax, with the addition of the oil canisters. The battery will easily last all day for a good hike and session, and has an auto shut-off feature to save your battery life even more. It takes just over a minute to heat to any temperature you prefer, between 200- and 428-degrees Fahrenheit. The digital screen allows you to see what temperature it is set to so that there is no guesswork involved. All you’ll have to do is pull your preloaded Titan 2 out of your pack, warm it up, and vape away along the trail.

Wax Vape Pen

If dabbing is more your style, then you will already understand the struggle of taking a dab rig on the trails. There are many elements involved that can make dabbing on the go more difficult. However, wax vape pens have come in with a solution for that. They are easy to load up with a small amount of wax and have a session without the hassle of using a blowtorch. The G Pen Nova wax vape pen is a great example of one that will work great on the trails.

The 300mAh battery can be charged up with a simple USB charging cable and offers three variable voltage settings to match the consistency of your wax. It’s best to use a dab tool to load up the ceramic heating chamber, but you can always do that before hitting the trail.  You can heat up the device and take short quick draws or press and hold the power button to manually heat your bowl. This device has an auto shutoff feature after ten seconds to preserve your bowl in between hits too. It will easily fit in your pack and offer little to no trouble when having a dab session in the woods.

Adaptable Oil Vaporizers

If you like a bit of variety in your hikes and sessions, then you might want to opt for an oil vaporizer that is compatible with multiple types of attachments. These powerful portable devices can be set up to vape oil cartridges, wax, or dry herb with the associated accessories.

The Steamcloud Mini oil vape mod offers this kind of versatility and stands at just over one inch wide and two and a half inches tall. Its compact body packs a 650mah battery with three variable voltage settings. It takes just fifteen seconds for the device to heat to temperature, so that you can vape quickly, discreetly, and keep hiking.

Box Mods

A wax bod mod is arguably the most cumbersome portable vape to pack for a hike, but it also packs the biggest hits. If you prefer to wander the trails slowly, and take your time to have a heady session along the way, then you should check out the SteamCloud Box Mod or the Pulsar APX vape box mod:

The devices stand at about four inches tall, keeping them portable, and capable of working with all types of vape cartridges, from wax to oil and dry herb carts. It is not too much trouble to load the cartridges along the trails, and box mods work best when it is not overloaded. You’ll just want to make sure it is fully charged before hitting the trails so that you do not run out of power in the middle of the woods.

As you can see, there are plenty of options when it comes to portable vaporizers. Which one you decide to pack up and bring along for an adventure is entirely up to you. Choose one that is either ultra-portable, ultra-convenient, or ultra-powerful. No matter which one you choose though, it’s sure to elevate your hike.
