A Complete Beginners Guide To Vape Cartridges & How They Work

Vapes are no longer limited to just oils. Today, both THC and CBD can be ingested via vape cartridges. If you’re new to the world of cannabis, or just haven’t tried vaping yet, then this guide is for you.

What is a Vape Cart?

Vape cartridges (or carts) are small, pre-filled containers made for use with vaporizers, aka vape pens. Carts are typically used for nicotine, but with the growing popularity of weed, both cannabis and CBD are among the new substances available in vaping form.

Parts of a Vape

1. Cartridge Body

The main body of the cartridge is usually made of glass or plastic.

2. Mouthpiece

The top part that you inhale from.

3. Atomizer

Contains the heating coil responsible for vaporizing the contents.

4. Wick

Absorbs and transports the vape oil to the heating coil.

5. Vape Oil

The liquid or concentrate (e.g., THC or CBD oil) inside the cartridge.

How Vape Cartridges Work

When you inhale through the mouthpiece, the vape pen's battery activates the atomizer. The heating coil in the atomizer heats up, vaporizing the oil-soaked into the wick. The vaporized substance is then inhaled through the mouthpiece.

Types of Vape Cartridges

510-threaded Cartridges: This is the most common type of threading that fits most vape pens.

Pod-style Cartridges: Designed for specific pod systems and not interchangeable between brands.

Why Vape Carts? The Benefits of Cartridges

Total convenience. With vapes, you're good to go without manual loading; plus, they're more inconspicuous than smoking. Vape cartridges offer precise dosing, which can be helpful for beginners.

Vape cartridges are pre-filled and ready to use, making them highly convenient (pun alert). There's no need for manual loading or preparation.

Convenience

Small and portable, slip a vape into a pocket or bag for on-the-go use. Vaping produces less odor and is generally more discreet than smoking, and the vapor quickly dissipates.

Social Acceptance

Vaping, regarding cannabis use, may nowadays be perceived as more socially acceptable than smoking, which can be an incentive for users. Many now want to avoid the stigma associated with smoking while still savoring the pleasures of vaping. Yes, and it's about high time!

Vaping is often considered a healthier alternative to smoking because it involves inhaling vapor rather than combusted smoke; while not entirely risk-free, vaping is said to be less harmful.

Medical Cannabis Vaping

Medical cannabis users often use vape cartridges to access the therapeutic benefits of cannabinoids like THC and CBD. Those who like to be in control of their dosage, for example, medical users, will respect the finer control offered by vaping. Cartridges are measured and many medical cannabis users employ dosing for symptom management.

Four Ways to Maintain Your Vape

1. Store your vape upright to prevent leakage

2. Avoid extreme temperatures.

3. Clean the battery and cartridge connections to keep it in good working order

4. Avoid sharing vapes to minimize health risks

Vaping and the Law

Understand the legal age requirements for purchasing and using vape products. Regulations surrounding vape products can vary by region, so it’s important to make sure you understand the laws in your state when it comes to vaping CBD products.

Considerations Concerning Cartridges

First, research and choose reputable brands with positive reviews to ensure product quality and safety. Always look for lab-tested cartridges to verify the ingredients and purity. Seek advice from experienced users or knowledgeable staff at vape shops to get additional guidance. Knowledge is power!

It's important to note that while vape cartridges offer advantages, they also come with potential risks. Some cartridges may contain additives or impurities and there have been concerns about the safety of certain vaping products. Always choose reputable brands known for quality and safety. Look for third-party testing, and purchase cartridges from trusted manufacturers to avoid subpar or counterfeit products.

Compatibility

Check your vape pen's compatibility to ensure the cartridge fits onto your vape pen. Then there are the voltage settings. Some pens have adjustable voltage, so always consider starting with low voltage and gradually increasing to find your preferred level. When inhaling, take slow and steady puffs to prevent overheating the coil.

Vaping and Health

If you're considering using vape cartridges, it's always a good idea to consult a healthcare professional, purchase products from reputable sources, and be aware of the potential health risks associated with vaping. While vaping is generally considered less harmful than smoking, it's not risk-free, especially if you're using products with unknown or low-quality ingredients. Remember, if you're new to vaping, it's best to start with caution and moderation.

Final Thoughts

It can be fun to experiment with different flavors and enjoy sampling vaping cartridges' various tastes and experiences. For THC on the go consider a portable vape. And for the ultimate in ease and discretion, come and find your own personal (new) favorite vape pens for dry flower, wax, or oils. Explore and find the one that fulfills your wishes and meets your needs.

There’s no discussion on proper way to use a cartridge. Repeated use without ‘resting’ the wick ends up burning same and/or becomes very hot when vaping. Draws of longer than 3 secs 3,4,5, times in a row tend to burn up 90% of cartridges (disposables) out there. Some discussion needs to take place regarding this. 🤤
